The Citations and Mentions views in AI Visibility give you detailed insight into exactly how and where AI platforms reference your brand.

Citations

Citations are when an AI platform references your website or content with a direct link. This is most common with Perplexity, which includes source links in its responses, but other platforms may also cite sources.

Navigate to AI Visibility > Citations to see:

  • Which of your pages are being cited

  • Which prompts triggered the citation

  • Which AI platform provided the citation

  • The context around the citation in the full response

Why Citations Matter

Citations are the strongest form of AI visibility — they provide direct links to your content, driving referral traffic from AI platforms. Tracking which pages get cited helps you understand what content format and depth works best for AI recommendations.


Mentions

Mentions are when your brand name appears in an AI response, even without a direct link. Navigate to AI Visibility > Mentions to see:

  • All instances where your brand was mentioned

  • The context of each mention (positive, neutral, recommended, compared)

  • The full AI response text

  • Which platform and which prompt triggered the mention

The AI mentions your product alongside competitors

Informational

The AI mentions your product as a factual reference

Passing

Your brand is mentioned briefly without detail


Using This Data

  • Optimize for citations. Create high-quality, well-structured content on topics where you want AI platforms to cite you.

  • Improve mention quality. If you are mentioned but not recommended, work on building stronger signals (reviews, content, backlinks) that help AI models favor your brand.

  • Track trends. Monitor whether your citation and mention counts are increasing over time.
