Tracked prompts are the questions and queries that RankGood sends to AI platforms during visibility scans. Choosing the right prompts is key to getting meaningful AI Visibility data.

What Are Tracked Prompts?

Tracked prompts are the exact questions that potential customers might ask an AI assistant. Examples:

  • "What's the best SEO tool for small businesses?"

  • "Which Reddit marketing platform should I use?"

  • "Compare [your product] vs [competitor]"

  • "How do I improve my AI visibility?"

When RankGood runs a scan, it sends these prompts to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity and records whether your brand appears in the response.

Viewing Your Tracked Prompts

Navigate to AI Visibility > Prompts to see all your tracked prompts.

Each prompt shows:

  • The prompt text

  • Which platforms mentioned your brand in the last scan

  • The buyer journey stage (awareness, consideration, decision)

  • When it was last scanned

Adding Prompts

AI-Generated Prompts

The easiest way to add prompts is to let RankGood's AI generate them:

  1. Go to AI Visibility > Prompts.

  2. Click Generate Prompts.

  3. The AI will create buyer journey prompts based on your product information.

  4. Review the suggestions and select the ones you want to track.

  5. Click Add Selected.

Generated prompts cover the full buyer journey:

  • Awareness — "What tools exist for [your market]?"

  • Consideration — "What's the best [product category]?"

  • Decision — "Should I use [your product] or [competitor]?"

Manual Prompts

To add a prompt manually:

  1. Click Add Prompt.

  2. Enter the prompt text — phrase it exactly as a user would ask an AI assistant.

  3. Optionally categorize it by buyer journey stage.

  4. Click Save.

Editing and Deleting Prompts

  • Edit — Click on any prompt to modify its text or category.

  • Delete — Click the delete icon next to a prompt to remove it from tracking.

Changes take effect on the next scan. Past scan results retain the prompts that were active when the scan was run.

Tips for Choosing Prompts

  • Think like your customer. What would someone type into ChatGPT when looking for a product like yours?

  • Cover all stages. Include awareness prompts ("What is [topic]?"), consideration prompts ("Best tools for [task]"), and decision prompts ("Compare [A] vs [B]").

  • Include competitor comparisons. Prompts like "Which is better, [your product] or [competitor]?" reveal direct competitive positioning.

  • Use natural language. Write prompts the way people actually talk to AI, not how they search Google.

  • Start with 10–15 prompts. This gives enough data without making scans expensive. Add more over time as you identify new query patterns.

  • Check Discovered Queries. RankGood's query discovery feature can surface prompts you haven't thought of.

Prompt Limits

The number of tracked prompts you can maintain depends on your scan strategy. More prompts per scan means higher per-scan costs but more comprehensive data. There is no hard limit on the number of prompts you can track, but each prompt increases scan time and cost.

A scan with 15 prompts across 4 platforms makes 60 API calls. Plan your prompt count accordingly.
